As a permanent visa, Contributory Age Parent visa (Subclass 864) is for senior parents of Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens to reunite with their children in Australia

This is one-step permanent residency and is perfect for parents with adequate financial resources without having to go through a two-stage process via Contributory Aged Parent visa (Subclass 884) to obtain permanent residency.

This visa is also for holders of Contributory Aged Parent visa (Subclass 884) to obtain permanent residence through a two-step process.

You may include your family in your visa application so you can migrate together.
Eligibility
Not currently hold or have applied for Sponsored Parent visa (Subclass 870)
Be old enough to receive age pension in Australia – refer to Special Notes below
Have no ‘No Further Stay‘ condition on your current visa (unless waived)
Obtain Assurance of Support (AoS) as instructed prior to visa grant (refer to Special Notes below)
Meet health and character requirements
Pay a bond ($10,000 for one applicant or $14,000 for two applicants) in the form of a 10-year term deposit as instructed prior to visa grant
Be sponsored (usually) by your child who must be:
- an Australian citizen, or
- an Australian permanent resident usually resident in Australia, or
- an eligible New Zealand citizen usually resident in Australia

‘Usually Resident’ Requirement Explained
Your child (the sponsor) meets this requirement if he/she has lived in Australia for a total period of at least 2 years which can be accumulated even when he/she was in Australia as a holder of a temporary visa (e.g. student visa) rather than an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
Assurance of Support

You must be able to obtain an assurance of support.

An assurance of support assures the Immigration that you will not have to rely on government assistance after you enter Australia on this visa. The assurance is for you and any family members who come to Australia with you on this visa.

Location
Applicants must be in Australia at the time of application and visa grant.
Duration of Stay
This is a permanent visa that allows you to stay permanently in Australia. However, its travel facility expires after 5 years so you will need to apply for Resident Return Visa (Subclass 155 & 157) or Australian citizenship (if eligible) if you wish to travel overseas and back to Australia after the expiry date.

First Instalment

Main applicant: $4355 (or $385 if holding Subclass 884 visa)

Each secondary applicant aged 18 or older: $2175 (or $195 if holding Subclass 884 visa)

Each secondary applicant aged under 18: $1090 (or $95 if holding Subclass 884 visa)
Second Instalment

Each dependant child aged under 18: $2095

Each other applicant: $43,600 or $19,420 (if holding Subclass 884 visa)
